Florești is a unique phenomenon in Romanian urban development, located in the immediate vicinity of Cluj-Napoca. Historically a rural settlement known as Szászfenes, it has transformed over the last 20 years into the most populous commune in the country, functioning as a massive satellite city. Its history dates back to the 13th century, and it was a strategic site during the medieval period, hosting a battle in 1660 that decided the fate of Transylvanian princes. The 14th-century Gothic Catholic church remains a silent witness to its long heritage. Today, Florești is characterized by a landscape of modern residential complexes, shopping centers like VIVO!, and a young, diverse population driven by the booming IT and academic sectors of Cluj. Geographically, it sits in the Someșul Mic valley, providing a scenic transition from the urban sprawl to the foothills of the Apuseni Mountains. Despite its rapid growth, the community strives to develop sustainable infrastructure and green spaces, making it a primary residential choice for those seeking a balance between the vibrance of Cluj-Napoca and a slightly more suburban environment.
