Łysica, the highest elevation of the Holy Cross Mountains, presents itself not as a sharp alpine peak, but as an elongated, densely forested ridge with two main summits. Its most outstanding feature are the extensive 'gołoborza', rivers of stone composed of weathered, exceedingly hard Cambrian quartzite that cascade down its flanks, forming a stark contrast with the surrounding deep-green fir forest. The harsh microclimate in the summit area ensures that snow often lingers here well into the spring, fostering the growth of boreal relict plant species. In local folklore, numerous legends surround this remote, mystical place; it was once reputed to be a fearsome gathering spot for witches' sabbaths, long before Christian crosses were erected along the paths. Today, a gently ascending, albeit rocky, hiking trail winds through the strictly protected nature reserve up to the main summit, which is marked by a simple wooden cross.
