Wieża spadochronowa
The Parachute Tower in Katowice (Wieża spadochronowa) is a historic structure located in the picturesque Kościuszko Park, near the city center. Originally constructed in 1937, this steel lattice tower was built for parachute training and stood at an impressive 50 meters. Today, it serves as an important symbol of Polish resistance and patriotism. The tower gained legendary status during the early days of World War II in September 1939. According to local history and tradition, Polish Boy Scouts bravely defended Katowice against the advancing German army from the top of this very tower. Although the original structure was largely destroyed during the occupation, it was rebuilt after the war to a height of 35 meters to honor the fallen defenders. Visitors to Kościuszko Park can view the tower and its accompanying memorial plaque, reflecting on the profound history of the region. The surrounding park offers a peaceful atmosphere with beautiful walking paths, making it a perfect spot to combine historical exploration with a relaxing stroll.
