Calbayog City, located on the western coast of Samar, proudly bears the nickname "City of Waterfalls." With over twenty documented waterfalls in its vicinity, it is a premier destination for adventure seekers. The most spectacular is Bangon-Bugtong Falls, a multi-tiered cascading system first-rate for swimming. Equally impressive is Tarangban Falls, where water plunges down massive, moss-covered rock faces into refreshing pools. Beyond its waterfalls, Calbayog features fascinating cave systems and the Mapaso Hot Springs, whose sulfurous waters are believed to have healing properties. The city itself holds a rich history, centered around the grand Calbayog Cathedral. The surrounding landscape is dominated by lush forests and winding rivers, good for kayaking and eco-tours. Local cuisine is famous for "tinapa" (smoked fish), a delicacy sought after throughout the archipelago. Calbayog is accessible via its own domestic airport with flights from Manila, as well as regular ferry services from Cebu and other nearby islands. The best time to visit is from April to July, when conditions are dry enough for jungle trekking while the waterfalls remain lively.
