Siquijor
Siquijor, once called 'Isla del Fuego' by the Spanish, is an island steeped in legends of magic and traditional healers. It is famous for its 'Mananambal' (healers) and its mystical reputation. The island's top attraction is the Cambugahay Falls, a three-tiered turquoise waterfall excellent for swimming and swinging on vines like Tarzan. Beyond the waterfalls, Siquijor has remarkable white sand beaches like Paliton Beach and thrilling cliff-jumping spots at Salagdoong Beach. History buffs should visit the St. Isidore de Labrador Church and Convent in Lazi, one of the largest and oldest in the Philippines. Another unique site is the 400-year-old Old Enchanted Balete Tree, which features a natural fish spa at its base. The best time to visit is during the dry season from December to May. Exploring by motorbike is the most popular way to see the island's coastal and mountain roads. The local dining scene provides a mix of fresh seafood and Visayan specialties, best enjoyed while watching the spectacular sunsets the island is known for.
