Mayon Volcano (Philippines)

Weather…

The relief of Mayon Volcano is the epitome of a first-rate stratovolcano. The symmetry of its conical structure is the result of millennia of uniform deposition of lava and pyroclastic materials. With a base circumference of about 130 kilometers, the mountain rises steeply to its summit crater at 2,463 meters. The lower slopes are characterized by deep erosional gullies (lahar channels) through which volcanic material flows during heavy rains. Mayon's geomorphology is extremely dynamic; every eruption alters the surface structure of the summit area. The almost vegetation-free upper third of the volcano exposes the bare rock of the most recent lava flows, while its base forms a fertile, intensively cultivated landscape.
