Broad Peak, standing at 8,051 meters, is the 12th highest mountain in the world, located in the Karakoram range on the border between Pakistan and China. The mountain derives its name from its massive summit ridge, which extends over 1.5 kilometers in length, giving it a notably wide appearance. Geographically, it is part of the Gasherbrum massif and is situated just 8 kilometers from K2 along the Baltoro Glacier. The first successful ascent was achieved on June 9, 1957, by an Austrian expedition led by Marcus Schmuck, which reached the summit without supplemental oxygen or high-altitude porters. The mountain features several subsidiary peaks, including Broad Peak Central (8,011 m) and Broad Peak North (7,490 m). In mountaineering terms, the normal route via the West Ridge is considered technically moderate compared to the neighboring K2, yet it poses significant risks from avalanches and extreme weather. The area is protected within the Central Karakoram National Park.
