Kongsvinger Fortress (Norway)

Weather…

Kongsvinger Fortress, located on Mount Tråstad in Kongsvinger, about 100 km northeast of Oslo, was built between 1682 and 1685 under the direction of Major General Johan Caspar von Cicignon to secure the Swedish border. The fortress features a star-shaped bastion layout with a central citadel. It played a strategic role in the Great Northern War (1700-1721). In the 19th century, it was used as a prison; today it houses a museum and hosts events. The site includes the main building with historic rooms, a chapel, and a powder tower. The ramparts offer panoramic views of the Glomma Valley. Annual concerts and markets are held here. The fortress is well-preserved, exemplifying Baroque military architecture in Norway.
