Emir of Kano's Palace (Nigeria)

Weather…

Gidan Rumfa, the Palace of the Emir of Kano, is one of the oldest and most significant royal residences in West Africa. The palace was built in the late 15th century, around 1470 to 1480, by Muhammadu Rumfa, the ruler of Kano. The complex spans an area of over 33 acres and is enclosed by massive mud walls characteristic of traditional Hausa architecture. Within its precincts are the Emir's private quarters, audience halls, mosques, and quarters for the royal retinue. The architecture features intricate clay decorations and traditional Sudanese style elements. Gidan Rumfa is not merely a residence but serves as the political and religious heart of the Kano Emirate, which continues to exert great cultural influence today. The palace has withstood numerous sieges and modifications over centuries, remaining a living monument to pre-colonial African civilization.
