Jos
Jos, the capital of Plateau State, is known for its exceptionally mild climate, often compared to a European spring. The city sits at an average altitude of 1,200 meters. Tourists visit for the pretty Shere Hills, good for hiking, and the Jos Wildlife Park, home to lions, pythons, and various primates. Historically, Jos was a tin mining hub, documented in the National Museum, which also houses a collection of Nok terracottas. The surrounding nature features spectacular waterfalls like Kurra Falls. In local gastronomy, 'Acha' (fonio) is very popular, often served as a hearty porridge or salad. Jos is well-connected by road to Abuja and has a domestic airport. The best time to visit is from November to February, when the Harmattan wind brings a pleasant coolness. The city is a cultural melting pot and gives a relaxed atmosphere compared to the hectic southern metropolises.
