Karaweik Palace
Karaweik Palace is an iconic architectural landmark situated on the eastern shore of Kandawgyi Lake in Yangon, Myanmar. Built between 1972 and 1974, the structure is designed to resemble a massive golden barge, specifically the mythical Karaweik bird of Burmese folklore. The palace consists of two separate hulls topped with traditional Pyatthat-style roofs, adorned with intricate wood carvings and gold leaf. It is 82 meters long and has a weight of approximately 2.000 tons, appearing to float on the surface of the lake. Historically used for state receptions, it now functions as a cultural venue offering traditional dance performances and dining. The site provides a scenic view of the nearby Shwedagon Pagoda.
