Cobue is a sleepy and extremely peaceful village in the far northwest of Mozambique, on the shores of Lake Niassa. The settlement feels as if time has stood still and is primarily known as a border post for travelers crossing by boat to the Malawian island of Likoma. Its most striking structure is the ruin of an old Anglican church, a testament to the region's missionary past. The surroundings of Cobue offer untouched nature with small coves and crystal-clear water, great for swimming and relaxing. There are some exclusive eco-lodges nearby that offer luxury in total seclusion. Village life revolves around the lake, and visitors can watch fishermen hauling in their nets or repairing their boats. The best time to visit is during the dry season from May to October. Since Cobue is very difficult to reach by land, many visitors arrive via the "Ilala" ferry across the lake. Those seeking solitude and authenticity will find it in Cobue. It is a place where one can completely forget the stress of the modern world.
