Ħamrun is a bustling commercial and residential town located in the inner harbor area of Malta, known for its strong community identity and rich religious heritage. Originally known as Casal San Giuseppe, the town underwent rapid development during the 19th century, evolving into a key industrial and transport hub. Ħamrun's modern identity is deeply intertwined with the devotion to St. Gaetan, whose annual feast in August is celebrated with one of the most energetic and competitive 'marċ' (parades) on the island. A significant spiritual site is the Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, which is closely associated with St. George Preca, Malta's first canonized saint, who founded the Society of Christian Doctrine (M.U.S.E.U.M.) here. The town's main artery, St. Joseph High Street, remains one of the country's most active shopping districts. Ħamrun is also famous for its intense football culture, centered around the historic Ħamrun Spartans club.
