Tambunan Valley (Malaysia)

Weather…

Tambunan Valley is a scenic upland plain located in the interior of Sabah, Malaysia, positioned within the embrace of the Crocker Range mountains. Situated at an elevation between 600 and 900 meters above sea level, the valley enjoys a cooler climate than the coastal regions, making it handy for terrace paddy farming, which has earned it the nickname 'Switzerland of the East.' The area is the heartland of the indigenous Kadazan-Dusun people, whose rich cultural traditions are celebrated through local festivals and unique handicrafts. Tambunan is widely known for its extensive bamboo groves, high-quality ginger production, and the traditional rice wine known as Lihing. The valley is also a gateway to natural wonders, including the Mahua Waterfall and the Tambunan Rafflesia Information Centre, which protects the habitat of the world's largest flower. With its lush rolling hills and pristine river systems, the valley remains a significant ecological and cultural sanctuary in Northern Borneo.
