Sights nearby

Mabul Island is globally recognized as one of the best spots for 'muck diving,' where tiny and exotic marine creatures are discovered in the silt and sand. Unlike nearby Sipadan, famous for large pelagics, Mabul provides a fascinating variety of macro subjects like nudibranchs, frogfish, and blue-ringed octopuses. The island itself is small and easily explored on foot, providing an authentic glimpse into the lives of the local fishing community. Accommodations range from basic backpacker huts to luxurious overwater bungalows perched directly above the reef. Beyond diving, the white sandy beaches and shallow waters invite relaxation and snorkeling. The best time to visit is from April to October when underwater visibility is at its peak. Access is by boat from Semporna, taking about 45 minutes. Since there are no cars on the island, the atmosphere is extremely relaxed and peaceful. Dining is usually included in resort packages and features plenty of fresh fish.
