Nosy Iranja, often called the 'Turtle Island,' consists of Nosy Iranja Be (large) and Nosy Iranja Kely (small). At low tide, the two islands are connected by a 1.5 km long, brilliant white sandbar, which is one of Madagascar's most photographed sights. The water here is incredibly clear and glows in every shade of turquoise. On the larger island, there is an old lighthouse designed by Gustave Eiffel. Visitors mostly take day trips from Nosy Be to walk across the sandbar and swim in the crystal-clear ocean. The island is an important breeding ground for green turtles and hawksbill turtles. Its remoteness ensures a peaceful, paradise-like atmosphere. In the small fishing villages, you can observe the simple life of the locals and enjoy fresh coconuts. The best time to visit is from May to October, ideally at low tide to see the sandbar in its full glory. Access is by speedboat from Nosy Be, taking about 90 minutes. Nosy Iranja is the epitome of a tropical paradise and an unforgettable experience for any traveler to Madagascar.
