Fort Capuzzo (Libya)

Weather…

Fort Capuzzo was a strategically important Italian border fortress in eastern Libya, located directly on the frontier with Egypt. It was built in the late 1920s during the Italian colonial period and was part of the so-called 'Limes Libycus', a massive barbed-wire fence designed to cut off the Senussi resistance led by Omar Mukhtar. At the beginning of the Second World War, the fort became a scene of fierce fighting between British forces and the Axis powers. It changed hands several times as it provided control over the Halfaya Pass and the coastal road between Tobruk and Alexandria. The fort's massive walls and casemates testify to the military efforts of that time. Today, only ruins remain of the once-proud fort, serving as silent witnesses to the turbulent history of North Africa in the 20th century. It stands as a reminder of the era of colonialism and the destructive power of the desert war that shaped much of the border region.
