Tulpar-Kol Lake
Tulpar-Kol is a quiet find in the Alay region, primarily attracting hikers and mountaineers. Located at over 3,500 meters, the lake often serves as a base camp for tours to Lenin Peak. The landscape is characterized by vast alpine meadows where yurt nomads graze their livestock in summer, providing visitors with an authentic insight into Kyrgyz culture. The surroundings offer spectacular photo opportunities as the snow-capped peaks of the Trans-Alay range reflect in the clear water. Visitors can undertake horse riding excursions or simply enjoy the absolute silence of the high-mountain wilderness. Access is typically from Osh via the Taldyk Pass, a journey that impresses with its serpentines and vistas. Culinary-wise, guests in the yurt camps are treated to traditional dishes like Beshbarmak and fresh bread. The best time to visit is from July to September when the passes are snow-free and the weather is stable. It is a place for those seeking the wild and wanting to feel the proximity of Central Asia's highest peaks.
