Karabura Mausoleum (Kazakhstan)

Weather…

The Karabura Mausoleum is dedicated to a revered 12th-century Sufi healer, who is popularly believed to have been a contemporary or disciple of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. According to legend, Karabura possessed miraculous healing powers. The current structure, which dates from the late medieval period, is a major pilgrimage site in southern Kazakhstan. The mausoleum was damaged and rebuilt several times throughout its history, but its sacred importance endured. Pilgrimage continued through the Mongol and Russian periods. During the Soviet era, from 1936, religious activities were officially suppressed, but the site's veneration persisted among the people. After Kazakhstan's independence in 1991, the mausoleum was restored and has once again become a significant spiritual center.
