Karkaraly National Park (Kazakhstan)

Weather…

Karkaraly National Park is located in the Karaganda Region of central Kazakhstan and was established in 1998. It protects the Karkaraly mountain massif, an oasis in the middle of the vast steppe characterized by granite rocks and dense pine forests. Covering about 1,121 square kilometers, it provides a fascinating geological diversity with caves, rock crevices, and mountain streams. A special feature is its mountain lakes, such as Lake Shaytankol (Devil's Lake), which is shrouded in local folklore. The fauna includes rare species like the argali sheep, as well as deer, wolves, and lynx. Historically, the region was a center of nomadic culture and houses archaeological sites like the Kyzyl-Kenish palace ruins from the Buddhist era. Today, the park is a significant recreational area, providing opportunities for hiking and rock climbing in a unique natural setting.
