Yahiko is located at the foot of Mount Yahiko in Niigata Prefecture and is one of the most sacred spots in the region. The Yahiko Shrine, dating back over 1,300 years, draws millions of pilgrims annually. The area is surrounded by lush forests and relaxing onsen (hot springs). A short drive away lies the Teradomari coast, home to Teradomari Chuo Beach. This beach is famous for its clean water and its immediate proximity to the legendary 'Fish Market Street', often called the Ameyoko of the sea. In addition to its spiritual atmosphere, the Yahiko area features excellent swimming spots along the Sea of Japan. Kakudahama Beach is renowned for its wide sandy shores and the scenic lighthouse perched on the cliffs, while Urahama Beach provides a more tranquil escape for nature lovers. Visitors can take the ropeway to the summit of Mt. Yahiko for a sweeping panoramic view of the coastline and Sado Island. The mix of ancient tradition, mountain hiking, and seaside relaxation makes Yahiko a unique Japanese destination.
