The Rainbow Bridge is a prominent suspension bridge spanning the northern Tokyo Bay, connecting the Shibaura Pier and the Odaiba waterfront development. Opened in August 1993 after five years of construction, the bridge has a total length of 798 meters and a main span of 570 meters. It is an engineering feat that accommodates two levels of traffic, including highways, the automated Yurikamome transit line, and pedestrian walkways. Its name is derived from the solar-powered lamps on the wires that illuminate the bridge in red, white, and green patterns at night. The supporting towers reach a height of 126 meters above sea level. The 1.7-kilometer pedestrian path gives spectacular views of the Tokyo skyline and the Odaiba Ferris wheel. The bridge serves both as a vital transportation link and as a symbol of Tokyo's modern harbor landscape.
