Tomba di Nerone is a district in the north of Rome, belonging to Municipio XV. Its name, meaning 'Tomb of Nero', is a misnomer, stemming from the 17th-century discovery of a sarcophagus erroneously attributed to the emperor. In reality, it belonged to Publius Vibius Marianus, a Roman official. The neighborhood stretches along the Via Cassia, an ancient consular road that connected Rome to Tuscany and remains a major traffic artery today. The district is primarily a residential area that developed after World War II, offering a mix of apartment buildings and some more elegant villas. It is a bustling and well-serviced neighborhood, with a plethora of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and bars, mainly frequented by locals. Despite its distance from the historic center, Tomba di Nerone has retained its own authentic Roman character. Although not a typical tourist destination, the area provides some interesting spots like the Insugherata Nature Park, a green lung with hiking trails that provides a glimpse into Rome's suburban landscape. Connection to the center of Rome is mainly via bus lines along the Via Cassia, which link the area to the Line A metro stations. A stay here features a different perspective on life in Rome, away from the beaten tourist tracks.
