Della Vittoria is the 15th quarter (quartiere) of Rome, located north of the Vatican City along the banks of the Tiber River. Named to commemorate the Italian victory in World War I, it is distinguished by its elegant, rationalist architecture from the 1920s and '30s. The quarter is best known for the monumental Foro Italico sports complex, which includes the Stadio Olimpico, the marble statue-lined Stadio dei Marmi, and impressive mosaics. A walk along its tree-lined avenues, like Viale Mazzini, reveals stately residential buildings and upmarket shops. Another key sight is the Ponte Milvio, an ancient bridge made famous for the 'love locks' left by couples. For one of the best views over Rome, ascend Monte Mario, Rome's highest hill, which is also home to the Rome Cavalieri hotel and the Astronomical Observatory. The district is well-connected by public transport, and the best time to visit is during spring or autumn to enjoy a pleasant walk in mild weather.
