Roman Forum (Italy)

Weather…

The Roman Forum in the heart of Rome was for centuries the religious, political, and economic center of the Roman Empire. Originally a swampy valley between the Palatine and Capitoline hills, the area was drained in the 6th century BC via the Cloaca Maxima. It housed the most important buildings of the Republic and later the Empire, including the Curia Julia (Senate house), the Regia, and the Temple of Vesta. Triumphal arches such as those of Septimius Severus and Titus commemorate Rome's military victories. The Rostra served as a speaker's platform from which famous figures like Cicero addressed the people. Following the fall of the Empire, the Forum fell into disrepair and was used in the Middle Ages as 'Campo Vaccino' (cow pasture), with many structures serving as stone quarries. Systematic excavations beginning in the 19th century finally unearthed the ruins, making it one of the world's most visited historical sites. It remains a symbol of the legacy of Roman civilization.
