Cefalù is a photogenic fishing town on Sicily's northern coast, renowned for its harmonious blend of natural beauty and historical architecture. The town is dominated by 'La Rocca', a massive 270-meter limestone cliff topped with ancient fortifications and a temple dedicated to Diana. At the heart of the town lies the Piazza Duomo and its majestic Norman Cathedral, commissioned by King Roger II. The cathedral is world-famous for its impressive Byzantine gold mosaics, particularly the iconic Christ Pantocrator in the apse. The narrow, medieval streets of the old town lead down to the old harbor, where stone houses line the waterfront. A unique site is the 'Lavatoio Medievale', a medieval wash-house carved into the rock and fed by an underground river. With its long golden sand beach and crystal-clear waters, Cefalù is a Mediterranean jewel that has served as a backdrop for famous films like Cinema Paradiso.
The most pleasant time to visit is May–Jul.
