City Palace, Udaipur (India)

Weather…

The City Palace in Udaipur is a sprawling complex of several palaces located on the eastern bank of Lake Pichola in Rajasthan. Construction began in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II after he moved the capital of the Mewar kingdom from Chittorgarh. Over a period of nearly 400 years, his successors added numerous structures, resulting in a seamless blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles. The entire complex is built of granite and marble, characterized by its intricate balconies, towering cupolas, and ornate arches. Inside, the palace features magnificent rooms like the Mor Chowk, famous for its glass peacock mosaics, and the Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace). The upper terraces offer panoramic views of the lake and the iconic Lake Palace hotel. Today, while part of the complex serves as a museum, a portion remains the private residence of the royal family.
