Getting there
The forested hill can be accessed via the popular Hong Kong Trail Stage 8 or the Pottinger Peak Country Trail. Starting points are usually Siu Sai Wan or the area around Big Wave Bay beach.
Best season
To fully enjoy the unclouded view of the east coast, it is best to choose clear autumn and winter days. Moist spring air often leads to thick, impenetrable sea fog here in the island's east.
Terrain & paths
The path to the summit largely consists of well-paved stairs and manicured sandy paths leading through dense vegetation. At 312 meters, the ascent is comparatively moderate and not very steep.
What to bring
Light footwear and sporty clothing are perfectly sufficient for this tour. A little water and possibly binoculars to observe the ships off the east coast round off the basic equipment.
Parking
Paid parking spaces are available near Big Wave Bay beach but fill up quickly. It is much more comfortable to take a minibus from the Shau Kei Wan MTR station to the start of the trail.
Safety
The wide and well-kept forest paths are considered extremely safe and mostly run away from steep cliffs. In the event of sudden thunderstorms, however, you should avoid the wooded summit and descend into the valley.
Time needed
The easy crossing of this hill usually takes little more than two leisurely hours. Hikers usually combine the tour with a relaxing beach stay at Big Wave Bay.
