Flagstaff House (Hong Kong SAR China)

Weather…

Flagstaff House stands as a prestigious landmark within Hong Kong Park, holding the title of the oldest surviving Western-style building in the city. Completed in 1846, it was designed as the residence for the Commander-in-Chief of the British Forces and is a premier example of Greek Revival architecture, tailored for the tropics with its distinctive wide shaded balconies. Having survived the heavy shelling of World War II and subsequent Japanese occupation, the building was meticulously restored and repurposed in 1984 to house the Museum of Tea Ware. The museum's galleries showcase a world-renowned collection of Yixing teapots and ancient ceramics, tracing the evolution of tea production and consumption from the Tang Dynasty to the present day. Adjacent to the museum is the Lock Cha Teahouse, where visitors can experience traditional tea service. The site serves as a serene sanctuary, preserving the city's colonial memory amidst the towering steel and glass of the surrounding financial district.
