Edward Youde Aviary (Hong Kong SAR China)

Weather…

The Edward Youde Aviary is a remarkable engineering feat located within Hong Kong Park, opened in 1992 to honor the late 26th Governor. Covering an area of approximately 3,000 square meters, it features a massive stainless steel mesh structure supported by large arches, creating a vast interior volume without internal columns. This design allows the birds to fly freely in a simulated tropical rainforest environment. Visitors traverse the facility on an elevated boardwalk that meanders through the tree canopy, providing a unique perspective on the inhabitants from ground level to the treetops. Home to over 600 birds representing roughly 80 species indigenous to Southeast Asia, the aviary includes lush vegetation, waterfalls, and shallow ponds. It serves as both a major tourist attraction and an important site for avian conservation and education within the dense urban landscape.
