Lindos Acropolis (Greece)

Weather…

The Acropolis of Lindos on the island of Rhodes is a dramatic archaeological site situated on a 116-meter-high cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea. It is a unique palimpsest of history, featuring ruins from the ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Medieval periods. The most significant monument is the Doric Temple of Athena Lindia, dating from the 4th century BC, which stands at the highest point of the rock. Visitors ascend through a grand Hellenistic staircase and a monumental stoa (colonnade) that once served as a prestigious entrance to the sanctuary. During the 14th century, the Knights of Saint John fortified the site with massive defensive walls and a governor's palace, creating a powerful medieval stronghold. From the top, the views of the surrounding coast and the heart-shaped Saint Paul's Bay are world-renowned. The blend of classical columns against the backdrop of medieval battlements makes Lindos one of the most visually remarkable and historically significant destinations in the Dodecanese islands.
