Lindos (Greece)

Weather…

Lindos is one of the most visited places on Rhodes, fascinating visitors with its combination of ancient history and Cycladic architecture. The village is situated on a steep slope and consists of cube-shaped, whitewashed houses with pebble mosaics (chochlakia) in the courtyards. The 16th to 18th-century Captain's houses with their ornate archways are famous. The entire village is car-free, with goods and tourists often transported by donkeys through the narrow alleys. High above the village sits the Acropolis of Lindos on a 116-meter-high rock. It houses the Temple of Athena Lindia from the 4th century BC and a medieval fortress of the Knights of St. John. From the top, there is a spectacular view of the heart-shaped St. Paul's Bay, where tradition says the Apostle Paul landed in 57 AD. The crystal-clear, shallow water makes it one of the best snorkeling spots on the island. Lindos is known for its ceramic traditions and rooftop restaurants, where you can admire the illuminated Acropolis while dining. It is located about 50 km from Rhodes Town and is easily accessible by bus or car. In peak season, it can get very hot, so visiting the Acropolis early in the morning is recommended. Lindos' beaches offer fine sand and all the amenities for a relaxing day by the sea.
