Asanko Gold Mine (Ghana)

Weather…

The Asanko Gold Mine is located in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region in Ghana. It is a major joint venture between Galiano Gold and Gold Fields, with Galiano Gold serving as the operator. The mine commenced commercial production in 2016, built upon the foundation of the Obotan Project, which has a lengthy history of exploration. Asanko is a multi-pit operation, extracting ore from several deposits including Nkran, Akwasiso, and Esaase. The ore is processed at a modern central facility with a capacity of approximately 5 million tonnes per annum. A notable feature of the operation is the large-scale overland conveyor system designed to transport ore from the Esaase pit to the main processing plant. The mine aims to be one of the lowest-cost producers in Ghana. Beyond gold production, Asanko is deeply committed to social responsibility projects, specifically in education and economic empowerment for local communities. Continuous near-mine exploration is focused on expanding the resource base to ensure long-term operational sustainability.
