Bad Langensalza is located on the edge of the Hainich National Park in Thuringia and impresses with an extraordinary ensemble of parks and gardens. The town holds the title of 'Europe's Most Flourishing City' and maintains this tradition with its extensive Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden 'Kofuku no Ni', and the Botanical Garden. The cityscape is unique, as most buildings in the historic old town were constructed from bright Langensalza travertine, giving the city a warm, Mediterranean glow. The town's history is closely linked to its healing springs; since the early 19th century, sulfur, brine, and mineral springs have been used for therapy. The Friederiken Therme is now the modern center for spa treatments. Culturally, the city is known for its medieval festival and its connection to the Battle of Langensalza in 1866. The proximity to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Hainich also makes the city a convenient starting point for nature observation and hiking in Germany's largest contiguous deciduous forest area.
