Wegberg, situated in the district of Heinsberg near the Dutch border, is affectionately known as the 'Town of Mills'. This title honors the more than 20 historic water and windmills that dot the landscape along the Schwalm river and its tributaries. Many of these structures have been carefully preserved, now serving as cultural landmarks, museums, or cozy restaurants. The town lies within the international Maas-Schwalm-Nette Nature Park, providing a lush environment of forests, wetlands, and meadows that are handy for outdoor recreation. Beyond its historical charm, Wegberg is a global hub for railway engineering. The Wegberg-Wildenrath Test and Validation Center, run by Siemens Mobility, is one of the world's premier sites for testing locomotives and high-speed trains. This unique combination of centuries-old tradition and cutting-edge technology defines Wegberg's identity. The local culture is also influenced by its proximity to the Netherlands, often seen in regional festivities and cross-border cooperation. With its well-marked hiking and cycling paths, Wegberg is a prime destination for those seeking both technical marvels and natural tranquility.
