💡 Tips
- Visit the Rhododendron Park during the main blooming season in May and June to experience the full splendor of the more than 2,500 plants.
- The mandatory visitor's tax card (Kurkarte) has many benefits like free beach access and discounts on events, so keep it handy.
- After an autumn or winter storm, you have the best chance of finding amber, the gold of the Baltic Sea, on the beach. But beware of confusion with phosphorus!
- Use the pier, which stretches 350 meters into the Baltic Sea, not just for a stroll but also as a starting point for boat trips.
- Explore the coastal forest (part of the Rostock Heath) on foot or by bike; it provides a welcome, shady change from beach life.
🍽 Food
Get freshly smoked fish directly from one of the fishermen's huts on the beach or in the village. An authentic treat.
Try the 'Lemon of the North' in the form of juice, liqueur, cake, or ice cream in local cafés and farm shops.
Look for this dessert made of black bread, rum, cherries, and cream in traditional restaurants, a hearty but delicious specialty.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
In many small shops in the village, you can find handmade jewelry from locally found amber.
Besides sea buckthorn products, you can often discover local honey and sausage specialties at small markets or in farm shops.
An extensive raised bog area east of Graal-Müritz, convenient for quiet hikes in a unique landscape.
The further you walk from the pier towards Dierhagen, the quieter and more natural the beach becomes.
Away from the main paths, you will always find a quiet spot in the vast forest area of the Rostock Heath.
Water temperature…
Graal-Müritz stretches five kilometers along the Baltic coast and provides a rare combination of sea and forest air. The seaside health resort is surrounded by the Rostocker Heide, one of the largest forested areas on the German coast. This unique location creates a special microclimate used for health treatments since the late 19th century. A major architectural highlight is the 350-meter-long pier (Seebrücke), reaching far into the Baltic Sea and providing impressive views of the coastline. In late spring, the 4.5-hectare Rhododendron Park attracts thousands of visitors when over 2,000 bushes are in full bloom. The town originated from the two separate villages of Graal and Müritz, visible today in the blend of traditional fishermen's cottages and modern spa architecture. The beach promenade is great for long strolls, while the shallow shore is well-suited for swimming and water sports. Culinary options include fresh seafood and hearty game dishes from the nearby forests. The town is conveniently connected to Rostock by a regional train line.
