Bad Harzburg, situated in Lower Saxony, is a premier health resort and a vital entry point to the Harz National Park. The town's reputation is built on its seven natural brine springs, which power the local Sole-Therme baths, a central attraction for wellness tourists. One of the town's most iconic features is the Burgberg Cable Car, operational since 1929, which whisk visitors up to the summit of the Burgberg mountain to view the ruins of the Harzburg Fortress and the Canossa Column. For a more modern experience, the Treetop Path (Baumwipfelpfad) features a 1,000-meter walk through the forest canopy, complete with educational stations about the local flora and fauna. Bad Harzburg is also a hub for equestrian sports, hosting the annual Harzburg Racing Week, a major highlight in the German horse racing calendar. Its location at the transition between the North German Plain and the mountainous Harz region makes it a first-rate destination for hikers, mountain bikers, and those seeking the fresh, therapeutic air of a certified climate-spa town.
