Maintal is located in the Rhine-Main metropolitan area, directly bordering the eastern side of Frankfurt am Main. The city was established on July 1, 1974, through the merger of the town of Dörnigheim and the municipalities of Bischofsheim, Hochstadt, and Wachenbuchen. Each district has maintained its distinct character: Dörnigheim is situated directly on the Main and is characterized by industry and residential areas, whereas Hochstadt features a historic center with city walls and half-timbered buildings. Wachenbuchen is idyllically located on the edge of the Wetterau region, and Bischofsheim serves as a lively residential and commercial hub. Economically, Maintal benefits from its excellent links to the A66 motorway and the railway system. Many commuters value its proximity to Frankfurt. For leisure, the banks of the Main offer extensive paths for cyclists and walkers, along with the scenic 'Maintaler Bogen' river bend.
