One of the region's largest city festivals on the Whitsun weekend, turning the city centre into a festival mile. Music, food, market stalls and the ceremonial crowning of the Spring Queen are part of the programme.
Set in the fertile Wetterau region just a stone's throw from Frankfurt am Main, Bad Vilbel is proudly celebrated as the City of Springs. Since the Roman era, mineral-rich healing waters have been drawn from the town's numerous deep wells, spawning major national mineral water brands like Hassia. The heart of the town’s outdoor life is the expansive, shaded Kurpark, which meanders idyllically along the banks of the Nidda River, offering a peaceful sanctuary for walkers and cyclists looking to escape the metropolitan hustle. However, the town's absolute cultural highlight is the historic Wasserburg (moated castle). Every summer, the romantic 12th-century ruins are transformed into a spectacular open-air stage for the Burgfestspiele Bad Vilbel. This highly acclaimed festival features elaborate productions of musicals, dramas, and operas, drawing tens of thousands of theatergoers from across the region. The lively town center successfully blends historic charm, exemplified by the easy on the eye half-timbered Old Town Hall, with modern shopping streets. The cozy cafes and restaurants around the Niddaplatz offer the well-suited setting to enjoy traditional Hessian dishes alongside freshly poured apple wine.
