Proudly known across the region as the „Capital of the Oderbruch”, Wriezen is a town deeply shaped by its highly extraordinary location within this completely unique river landscape. The deeply dramatic history of this once-wealthy trading city can still be strongly felt at the striking ruins of St. Mary's Church, which was destroyed during World War II and now serves as both a poignant memorial and a highly atmospheric cultural venue right in the heart of the town. A walk through Wriezen reveals lovingly rebuilt streets alongside historical traces such as the old railway station building. For nature lovers and completely active vacationers, Wriezen is the ultimate starting point for exploring the flat, wide-open Oderbruch by bicycle, making great use of the beautifully maintained Oder-Neisse cycle path. Here, dense tree-lined avenues, endless agricultural fields, and sleepy villages with typical half-timbered houses follow one another. Out in the untouched nature, visitors can closely observe an incredible variety of birdlife or simply soak in the profound peace of the area.
