Werder (Havel) is a true maritime jewel in the state of Brandenburg, instantly enchanting its visitors with an incredibly unique island character. The undisputed heart and soul of the city is its photogenic little island town, accessible only via a bridge, which provides a movie-like backdrop with its carefully restored fishermen's houses, narrow cobblestone streets, and the highly majestic Holy Spirit Church. Perched up high is the historic post mill, which has become a famous local landmark and provides a spectacular panoramic view across the Havelland region. Werder is nationally famous for its annual Baumblütenfest (Blossom Festival), one of Germany's largest and most traditional folk festivals, where locals and visitors gather to taste sweet fruit wines directly in the blossoming gardens of local fruit farmers. Even outside of festival season, the city remains an absolute paradise for day-trippers, as the idyllic waterfront promenades invite visitors to stroll, cycle comfortably, and enjoy fresh regional fish dishes. The characterful river scenery makes Werder a highly romantic destination.
