Lake Schwielowsee is located in the state of Brandenburg and forms a prominent part of the Havel river lake system southwest of Potsdam. With a surface area of approximately 7.86 square kilometers, it is one of the largest lakes along the Havel, characterized by its wide and open expanses of water. The maximum depth of the lake is about nine meters, making it relatively shallow compared to other regional bodies of water. Historically and culturally, the lake is closely associated with notable figures; most famously, Albert Einstein owned a summer house in the idyllic village of Caputh on its shores during the 1920s. Surrounding towns like Petzow, featuring a church designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, and Geltow, home to a museum of hand weaving, offer numerous cultural highlights. Schwielowsee is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape of Potsdam and Berlin, as its shoreline complements the vistas of the royal parks.
