💡 Tips
- Avoid driving on the B291 and L723 during peak commuter rush hours (8-9 AM and 5-6 PM) due to heavy traffic around the SAP headquarters.
- Visit the Astorhaus, the birthplace of John Jacob Astor, which provides a fascinating glimpse into local emigration history.
- Hotel and restaurant availability can be scarce during major IT conferences; book your accommodations well in advance.
- Rent a bicycle to explore the flat, well-maintained paths connecting the town to the surrounding Hardtwald forest.
🍽 Food
In spring, find locally grown white asparagus served with hollandaise in traditional German gasthouses.
Try these hearty Swabian meat-filled dumplings at local taverns in the town center.
Due to its corporate presence, the main street gives excellent, quick Italian and Asian fusion spots.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Walk along the main shopping street for local owner-operated fashion and specialty stores.
Look for 'Hofläden' on the outskirts selling fresh seasonal strawberries and asparagus directly from the farmers.
Escape into this expansive, flat pine forest with miles of quiet trails for running or walking.
A serene, free-entry animal park on the edge of town, great for a peaceful afternoon walk.

Walldorf is a city in the south of the Rhein-Neckar district in Baden-Württemberg and is primarily known worldwide as the headquarters of the software company SAP SE. This economic significance has made the city one of the wealthiest municipalities in Germany. Historically, however, Walldorf was long characterized by agriculture, particularly tobacco cultivation and the hops trade. A prominent son of the city is John Jacob Astor, who emigrated to America at the end of the 18th century and became the richest man of his time as a fur trader and real estate investor; the famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York is named after him. In the city, the Astor House, a former almshouse, commemorates his legacy. Geographically, Walldorf lies in the Upper Rhine Plain and benefits from excellent transport links through the Walldorf motorway junction. Despite the industrial dominance, the city has a large forest area for recreation with the Hochholz. Culturally and socially, the city invests heavily in infrastructure and education, making it an attractive residential location for professionals from all over the world. The neighboring city of Wiesloch forms a joint regional center with Walldorf.
