Leimen is a dynamic town located in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, just a few kilometers south of the historic city of Heidelberg. It rose to international fame in the 1980s as the hometown of tennis icon Boris Becker, whose career began on the local courts. Beyond its sporting legacy, Leimen is a key player in the Baden wine region, with its vineyards benefiting from the favorable climate of the Upper Rhine Plain and the protective hills of the Odenwald. The local economy is uniquely balanced between traditional viticulture and heavy industry, most notably represented by the massive cement works of Heidelberg Materials, which has been operational for over a century. The town's layout features a mix of historical elegance and modern functionality, with the central town hall located in a former aristocratic palace. Leimen provides a high quality of life, combining green spaces and recreational facilities with excellent public transport links to the nearby academic and industrial hubs of Mannheim and Heidelberg. Its community is known for being active and diverse, hosting various cultural festivals and wine-tasting events throughout the year.
