Öhringen, the largest town in the Hohenlohe district, provides a unique blend of Roman antiquity and princely grandeur. Its origins as a Roman fort along the Limes border have earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list. During the 17th and 18th centuries, it reached a peak of importance as the residence of the Princes of Hohenlohe-Öhringen. The sprawling palace and its magnificent 'Hofgarten' (Court Garden) remain the heart of the city, especially after extensive renovations for the 2016 State Garden Show. The Collegiate Church of St. Peter and Paul is a significant late Gothic structure that dominates the skyline. Today, Öhringen is a prosperous economic center characterized by a mix of medium-sized enterprises and a lively retail environment. Located in the fertile Hohenlohe plains, the city is surrounded by photogenic vineyards and orchards, making it a key stop for food and wine lovers exploring the southwestern part of Germany.
