Carved deeply into the valley of the upper Neckar river, this town combines a long industrial history in arms manufacturing with deeply rooted local traditions. The former Augustinian monastery now houses a museum that thoroughly documents the development of the local weapons industry, from Mauser to Heckler & Koch, alongside the town's history. Oberndorf is widely known for its traditional Swabian-Alemannic carnival (Fasnet). Every year, classic figures known as Schantle, Hansel, and Narro run through the streets wearing elaborate hand-carved wooden masks. Architecture enthusiasts will enjoy the historic upper town with its narrow alleys and the Baroque town hall. Above the river sit the ruins of Bünden and Bändeck castles, which can be reached via steep forest paths. The Neckar Valley Cycle Route runs directly through the municipality, offering excellent conditions for cyclists to explore the dramatic limestone cliffs that line the riverbanks.
