Alte Burg

The „Alte Burg“ (Old Castle) in Longuich is a fascinating piece of medieval history nestled in the picturesque Mosel wine region near Schweich, Germany. Originating from the 14th century, this fortified manor house was expanded into its current late Gothic form during the 15th and 16th centuries. Once the residence of local nobility, it stands out with its robust stone masonry, historic cellar, and the visible remnants of its original defensive moat.

Unlike massive hilltop fortresses, the Alte Burg is a „Niederungsburg“ (lowland castle), originally protected by water rather than elevation.
