Adlerturm

The Adlerturm, located in Rüdesheim am Rhein, is a striking late Gothic defensive tower that once formed a crucial part of the town's medieval fortifications. Built in the 15th century, the historic tower is situated directly on the banks of the Rhine river. Originally constructed to protect the settlement from riverborne attacks and to maintain strict control over vital trade routes, its exceptionally thick walls and strategic positioning reflect its immense historical military importance.

Standing at over 20 meters tall, the tower features characteristic corner turrets and a distinctively steep roof, making it a prominent visual landmark in the region. Over the centuries, the Adlerturm has survived various military conflicts and profound urban transformations. It remains one of the few surviving sections of Rüdesheim's ancient city walls.

A fascinating historical anecdote notes that the famous German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stayed in an adjacent inn and greatly admired the formidable structure during his travels.
