Mount Mouaputa

Mount Mouaputa is one of the most distinctive features of Moorea's skyline, famously known as the 'pierced mountain' due to a large natural hole near its summit. Rising to 830 meters above sea level, this volcanic basalt peak is a remnant of the massive geological shifts that formed the Society Islands millions of years ago. According to Polynesian legend, the hole was formed when the hero Pai threw his magic spear to stop the god Hiro from stealing the mountains.
