💡 Tips
- Take a water taxi ('Les Bateaux Verts') to Saint-Tropez. It's faster than driving and you'll avoid the infamous traffic.
- Port Grimaud is car-free. Use the large car park at the entrance and arrive before 10 am in summer to secure a spot.
- Rent a small electric boat ('coche d'eau') to explore the canals on your own. No license is needed and it's the best way to see the city.
- For just one euro, climb the bell tower of the Church of Saint-François d'Assise for an unbeatable 360-degree view.
🍽 Food
Enjoy a platter of fresh oysters, shrimp, and mussels at one of the many waterside restaurants.
Try this classic fish stew from the Provence region. Look for a restaurant that specialises in fish for the most authentic version.
Grab an artisanal ice cream from a vendor near the main square and enjoy it while watching the boats go by.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
The main market is on Thursday and Sunday mornings. Find everything from fresh fruit to Provençal textiles and soaps.
If visiting in July or August, don't miss the Monday evening craft market for a magical atmosphere and unique souvenirs.
Walk away from the busy main square and wander over the bridges of the residential areas. It's much quieter and you can admire the gardens.
The church itself is an ecumenical and peaceful space. The bell tower features a view, but the interior gives tranquility.
A smaller, more intimate beach just a short walk from the main beach, which is often less crowded.

Port Grimaud is a unique architectural project conceived by François Spoerry in 1966. Built on former marshland, this 'Venice of Provence' was designed to look like a traditional Mediterranean fishing village, but with a modern twist: nearly every home has its own private mooring. The town features 12 kilometers of canals and 7 kilometers of quays, connected by characterful bridges. The pastel-colored houses and terra-cotta roofs create a warm, spirited atmosphere that feels both ancient and contemporary. The town is largely car-free, enhancing its peaceful, seaside vibe. Exploring the canals by small electric boats, known as 'coches d'eau', is the best way to see the town's intricate layout. A key landmark is the Ecumenical Church of St. Francis of Assisi, which features impressive stained-glass windows by the op-art pioneer Victor Vasarely. Climbing the church tower provides a panoramic view of the lagoon and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. With its sandy beaches and waterside restaurants, Port Grimaud is a top destination for families and sailing enthusiasts. The summer months are the busiest and most festive, but the shoulder seasons offer a quieter, equally beautiful experience.
